Brightmetrics Webpage Timeout(s)

We get questions around this subject from time to time:

The time for the system to log out due to inactivity is not something we can change or adjust. This is in place to ensure the user is still engaged in the service and to ensure no unauthorized usage is happening. 

The only exception is the dashboard viewing page, the dashboard page should never time out. It sends a keep-alive request to the server every few minutes to keep the session active, specifically because we expect people to have these up on wallboards.

The edit dashboard page will time out, however, so make sure after you save your dashboard changes you return to the "Dashboard" page to observe the chart.

There is also a special wallboard-optimized view, which you can get to as a quick test by changing "Dashboard.aspx" in the address bar to "ViewDashboard.aspx", keeping everything else the same. The primary use of that is for publishing dashboards. If you go to the Users page and select "Users by Dashboard" you'll see a link icon next to each dashboard. If you click the "add" link icon you'll get a link you can use to bring up the dashboard in that view-only mode from any browser without logging in.

If you're still getting timeouts on either the Dashboard.aspx page or ViewDashboard.aspx page let us know.

Another possibility is if you have the dashboard up in one window and click "Log out" in another window, or bring up the Brightmetrics login page in another window. Either one of those actions will log you out of your current session, which affects all open Brightmetrics tabs/windows.
